Eric Alfrey, Children's Minister
A true Southerner at heart, I was born in southern Ohio, went to school in Virginia, and lived in Mississippi and southern China before coming to Columbia. I have been in the ministry of Christian education since 1985, serving as an elementary principal and school administrator as well as education minister. My wife, Martha, and I have 3 children; Hannah Beth who is a graduate of Anderson University, Abby who is in college, and Ethan who is in high school. We have been at FBC since 2008.
Kay Gore, Preschool/Childcare Coordinator
It is my passion to work with children and instill a love of the Lord in them, so they can go out and spread the Word to their friends. I originally grew up in Sumter, SC but have lived in Columbia for the past 35 years. My husband, Craig and I have 2 wonderful daughters; Brittany, who is a speech pathologist in Greenville, SC and Mallory, who is in high school and is involved with Student Ministries at First Baptist, cheer and dance. I also have a stepdaughter, Nicole, who lives in Charlotte, NC and stays very busy raising 5 children. I am a very proud Gigi to 6 amazing grandchildren. In my free time, I enjoy vacationing in the mountains, Gamecock sports and spending time with my family.
Esther Dennis, Studio 10:10 Coordinator
I am married to Dan Dennis and am a mom to Millie. When I’m not writing scripts or acting as who knows what character on Sunday mornings, I volunteer at my daughter’s school and at Family Connection of SC. You can often find me at the church throughout the week leading a women’s Bible study , helping with children’s choir and Awana, and putting together the large group time, Studio 10:10, for the kids during Sunday School. More than likely I’ll be the one dressed in strange costumes.
Keith Watson, Associate Minister of Music & Children's Choir Director
An Alabama boy with Mississippi parents, I came to South Carolina in 1990 by way of Texas. I married Leigh, a Columbia native and the love of my life, and am the proud father of two wild and wonderful boys, Will and Forbes. Since 2008, we have been a part of the family at First Baptist, where I get to make music with children, senior adults, and everyone in between. My favorite activities include eating yellow barbecue, playing with beyblades and the “Little People” farm, and doing the ice cream and cake dance with a room full of children. However, eating ice cream and cake is always a welcome option.
