The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli – 2617 Devine St. Columbia, SC
You’ve probably already been to The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli. With it’s amazing food and great, friendly service, it didn’t take long for locals and shortly after, The Food Network, to take notice of this gem. I would like to do the hipster thing and say that I discovered it right before it became huge. One Friday morning, I got up early, made my way over to Devine Street, and ordered 10 huge cinnamon rolls for the office. I met owner Jody Kreusch and even spoke to her about doing a food blog on the restaurant. She was enthusiastic about it, as was I, but things got in the way and I didn’t make it back over there … until now.
These days The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli is kind of a big deal. Because of their 12-pound Cinnamonster Cinnamon Roll, The Food Network’s Ginormous Foods came down to Columbia to feature them. While the cinnamon rolls, which can be ordered with all kinds of toppings, such as strawberry cheesecake and maple bacon, are AMAZING, the other menu items are nothing to sneeze at. They have several breakfast items, including grits bowls, of which I’ve heard great things. There are also NYC Pushcart Dogs, sandwiches, panini, soups, and more. Just look at this beautiful menu of food! It was really hard for me to choose because everything looked good. I wanted one of each. I wanted a sandwich, but then I thought that soup sounded good, but I remembered Jody telling me that their hotdogs were really awesome. Fortunately for me, they have a choose 2 combo, so I chose the Columbia Dog and the Creamy Tomato Basil Parmesan Soup. What’s even more awesome, is that it came with those fresh parmesan pita chips and a mini cinnamon roll!!
I chose the Columbia Dog because it is topped with what I grew up eating at another hot dog restaurant that shall remain nameless, not because their hotdogs are bad (they’re quite good and I ate more of them than I care to count in college), but because The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli does it SO MUCH BETTER! Jody didn’t lie to me when she told me that they were better. How will I ever be able to eat another kind of hotdog? I’ve reached the pinnacle and now there is nothing left. The soup was great. Pro tip – dip your pita chips into the soup. Amazing combo. And then there was that cinnamon roll. Did I practice restraint and save the cinnamon roll for later? You bet I didn’t! I ate the whole thing at the table and was then inspired to buy a bigger cinnamon roll (to-go … at least until I got back to the office!). I ordered the strawberry cheesecake cinnamon roll. I wish that I had one right now.
My friends got sandwiches and those looked awesome too.
While The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli can get a bit crowded, they move efficiently and it is well worth the wait. Even though I just ate lunch, if you asked me if I wanted to go with you there right now, I’d totally be in. Do yourself a favor and eat there.

Hi! I’m April. I work on staff here at FIRST designing a bunch of things for print and Web. I believe that world peace can be achieved over a pan of fresh baked biscuits and everyone coming to faith in Jesus. Ok, really it’s just Jesus, but the biscuits help.
