FIRST takes a total-life approach to bringing families together by offering Christ-centered, fun-filled activities and sports for people of all ages. We offer specialized exercise classes, instruction-for-life classes, and high-energy sports to help you improve your fitness level while also enjoying fellowship with others.

Regardless of your experience or abilities, the Recreation Ministry at FIRST provides many great ways to exercise the body as well as to build character and relationships. Look through our list. We have no doubt that you will find just the class you are looking for!

Class Description

Come join the party at lunch! Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Ways to Prevent or Improve Type 2 Diabetes

One day class held on March 5. Bring your lunch and let’s learn! Minimum registration numbers must be met for this FREE class to be held.

Currently, every seventeen seconds in the United States, someone is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and the diagnosis is rapidly increasing in teenagers and young adults. The medical literature contends that when a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is made, the disease has already been impacting the body on an average of ten years. Fortunately, however, type 2 diabetes can often be prevented, reversed, and/or managed successfully!

In this class we will explore 1) An explanation of the general types of diabetes (type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes- – -and the newest type of diabetes: type 3 diabetes). 2) The “five skills for successful prevention and/or management of diabetes – – -and how easy they can be to follow! 3) The effects of diabetes on all parts of the body and possible long term complications of uncontrolled diabetes on the body. 4) “Success stories” obtained from working with patients who chose to make the choice to prevent or manage their pre-existing diabetes.

Body fat composition is a better indicator of fat than stepping on the scales. We will use electrical impedance to determine your body fat and Body Mass Index (BMI). Use this measurement as a guide in your workout program! Also, have your blood pressure taken. This screening will be offered each quarter for follow-up.

The probate process in South Carolina can be confusing and intimidating to people interacting with the Probate Court system for the first time. This workshop will discuss the administration of an estate in South Carolina from opening to closing. Included will be a discussion of transfers which avoid probate and coverage of creditors’ claims and other liability issues which can arise during administration.

Are you a good shot? We will travel to a range in Eastover to determine who the best shot really is!

We will award a $25 gift card to overall best shooter and the Sunday School class that has the most participants (including guests) will win doughnuts for Sunday.

Invite your friends and neighbors for a great time of fellowship. Bring your gun, money to purchase clays and money for lunch afterwards. Must pre-register in order to reserve space at the range.

Diabetes

Heart Health Screening

One day only on June 1! This is a FREE screening

Registration begins first of May. Pre-registration is required for this on-site heart health screening, which includes: lipid profile (Total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, & Triglycerides), glucose, risk assessment for diabetes, coronary and heart disease screening and blood pressure assessment. FASTING IS REQUIRED for 12 hours prior to screening.

Drink lots of water prior to screening. Feedback of results will be mailed to registrants. Call 343.8587 after the first of May to reserve a time!

Soccer Shots® Winter Session

January 14 starts the 6 week Winter Season. Soccer Shots is a national intro to soccer program for children ages 3-8. We are non-competitive and place our focus on teaching soccer skills and character development in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.

Each week we will focus on a new skill and a new character word. We will scrimmage at the end of each class time to implement the skills of the day. Children will be divided into appropriate age groups. Registration includes: Umbro Jersey, weekly prizes and more.

Space is limited and we run on a first come first serve basis so please don’t delay in registering.
