FIRST takes a total-life approach to bringing families together by offering Christ-centered, fun-filled activities and sports for people of all ages. We offer specialized exercise classes, instruction-for-life classes, and high-energy sports to help you improve your fitness level while also enjoying fellowship with others.

Regardless of your experience or abilities, the Recreation Ministry at FIRST provides many great ways to exercise the body as well as to build character and relationships. Look through our list. We have no doubt that you will find just the class you are looking for!

Zumba Fitness® at Lunch

Class Description

Come join the party at lunch! Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Kelly is a Certified Personal trainer through NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association).  He has experience in personal training men and women of all ages.  He also has a background in running a corporate wellness facility for employees here in Columbia and several years of experience as a Strength and Conditioning Coach in Professional Baseball for two different organizations (Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers) working with Major and Minor League players. Kelly and his wife Sara are FBC members, and they have 2 children.

This course will be held in the 1420 Student Center located next to the EFLC. Please use entrance to 1420 located in Washington Street parking lot. Step into the course that awakens your mind and prepares your body to prevent and prepare for some of life’s worst case scenarios. In this course we physically focus on grabs, chokes and abduction scenarios as well as what mentally goes with training for all of it. All skill levels welcome. Wear comfortable clothing!

Senior Adult Women’s Self-Defense

Currently, every seventeen seconds in the United States, someone is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and the diagnosis is rapidly increasing in teenagers and young adults.  The medical literature contends that when a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is made, the disease has already been impacting the body on an average of ten years.  Fortunately, however, type 2 diabetes can often be prevented, reversed, and/or managed successfully! 

In this class we will explore 1) An explanation of the general types of diabetes (type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes- – -and the newest type of diabetes: type 3 diabetes). 2) The “five skills for successful prevention and/or management of diabetes – – -and how easy they can be to follow! 3) The effects of diabetes on all parts of the body and possible long term complications of uncontrolled diabetes on the body. 4) “Success stories” obtained from working with patients who chose to make the choice to prevent or manage their pre-existing diabetes.

Body Fat Composition:

BMI Screening & Blood Pressure

Cost/Description

Cost: $5/person – Pay in person

Body fat composition is a better indicator of fat than stepping on the scales. We will use electrical impedance to determine your body fat and Body Mass Index (BMI). Use this measurement as a guide in your workout program! Also, have your blood pressure taken.

Soccer Shots® Winter Session

Soccer Shots is a national intro to soccer program for children ages 3-8.  We are non-competitive and place our focus on teaching soccer skills and character development in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. Each week we will focus on a new skill and a new character word.  We will scrimmage at the end of each class time to implement the skills of the day. Children will be divided into appropriate age groups. Registration includes: Adidas Jersey, weekly prizes and more. Space is limited and we run on a first come first serve basis so please don’t delay in registering.
